Photography Tips: Prevent Exposure Under the Pocket Digital Camera

Generally, a pocket digital camera users, complaining the image they tend to get less light (under exposure), especially in flash photography (indoor), was primarily due to the camera of this type rely on the built-in flash or the flash of light intensity of depression was , so the range / coverage area is limited, plus custom maximum shooting distance range of flash.

What often happens is:

* In the wide angle lens (zoom out max), only the pot was quite bright, while the pd the edges / corners, tend to be dark, it is because the limitations of flash coverage area.

* On a telephoto lens (zoom in max), tends to overall lack of bright (under), this is due to the position of zoom in, opening the aperture smaller, more SHG light is needed, consequently shorten flash range. detailed explanation of the aperture, can be read here

To avoid the problems they will be, we need to know the capacity flash cameras, compact cameras are generally pd just given flash max range of data, such as: wide angle: 3 m, tele: 2 m, ISO 100 pd.

Each increase in 1 stop / double (ISO 200), max range they will flash up 1.4 times, the increase of 2 stop / quadruple (ISO 400) flash increases the distance max 2 time, otherwise if its ISO down ½ (ISO 50) distance flash max decreased 0.7 times. so to prevent under exposure, try photographing dlm distance before / under max flash range. to better know more about what is ISO, please read this post first

Several things must be considered reply to prevent Under Exposure:

1. Use the highest ISO for less light conditions (low light) and / or for moving objects (photos sport / action), so that the object tercahayai enough, and “freeze” motion. The weakness with the use of high ISO, especially pd bersensor this little camera, is an increase in noise (in an analog camera / film, grainy), due to increased light sensitivity with an eye sensor to increase the sensor amplifier gain. But this noise level (generally consumer digicam max ISO 400), is still worthy of printing for small size (3-4R), if you are “allergic” with noise / grainy, avoid ISO 400, ISO 200 using max.
2. Use a flash with a low speed (slow synch flash) to the object plus backgroundnya favorably tercahayai enough. This is especially useful for night shoot / scene, where yg dark background, it’s pretty tercahayai (bright), just reply to remember, though using the flash, krn pd low speed, try to keep the camera and photograph subjects remained steady (preferably using a tripod / alternative ). Another advantage, the lower speednya, the more natural color of light recorded on the original reply (eg: color light bulb more warm reply).
3. Use the value of (+) EV (exposure compensation) for “enlightening” the results of our photos. The advantage with this method, are: increasing the brightness of the non-coupled with increased noise, krn way this works is with lower speed until the limit of “safe”, in which the speed is still high enough for handheld (handheld camera), if this was not enough, then aperturenya to-be enlarged; associated with how it works, we must consider the consequences, among others:
* The greater the value of (+) its EV, the lower speednya, is ill-suited for “freezing” the motion of objects, better suited for still images.
* When to aperturenya enlarged, the DoF (Depth of Field) would be shortened, but this is rare, especially considering the digital compact cameras have a DoF wrote “very” long, except for the image macro.
* Because the brightness of our deliberately “add”, so avoid its use for photos at close quarters / close-up (1 m or less), to avoid over exposure; more useful approach for image flashnya max range, so do not under – exposure results .

How much value (+) its EV (exposure value)? depending on how bright image we want, lighting conditions at the location shooting, and do not forget to adjust with the ISO setting that we use, for it to do the experiment once for determining value.

Generally, the value of +2 / 3 – 1 (+0.7 – 1.0) pd ISO 100-200 is sufficient, in certain circumstances require yg high brightness level, maybe just enough pd ISO 400 (eg: photos group had carried out the reply max flash range). For the auto ISO setting, consider its ISO range, generally between 100-200, 100-400, 50-150, depending on the brand / type of camera (though the camera generally tend to choose their lowest ISO).

Hopefully useful
